Cummings, Fuerte Shine Despite Tough Opener

The Mustangs faced a tough Windward (Los Angeles) team, losing to the Wildcats by a score of 49-0 on Friday night at home.
 
Despite the lopsided score, there were several highlights:
 
OFFENSE:
Quarterback David Cummings (No. 3) was the team’s high-yardage rusher, carrying the ball 14 times for 79 yards (5.6 yard average). The senior also passed for 61 yards, bringing his total yards to 140.

Running back Frank Fuerte (No. 18) carried the ball 12 times for 68 yards (5.7 average). The senior also received five catches for 28 yards. He also had the team’s most all-purpose yards with 96.

Sophomore Thomas Salbino caught the ball seven times for 33 yards (4.7 yard average) and carried the ball one time for three yards.
 
DEFENSE:
 
Cummings also had the most tackles with three solo and six assisted for a total of nine tackles. Abiram Alcala, a senior, had two solo tackles and three assists for five total tackles. Junior Curtis Freeman assisted on three, Salbino had one solo and two assisted tackles.
 
Fuerte also was a power on the defensive side with a total of 10 tackles (three solo and seven assists). Jeremy Smith had three total tackles, Tyze Walker, a junior, had two and Brody Evans assisted on three tackles.
 
SPECIAL TEAM:
 
Salbino’s versatility was apparent as a kicker. He kicked a kickoff 42 yards and a punt for 38 yards.
 
The Lucerne Valley Mustangs travel to Trona on Friday, August 31 followed by hosting Chadwick (Palos Verdes Peninsula) for a home game on Saturday, September 8 at 5 p.m.
