A personal best time of 54.89 seconds in the 400 meters by standout runner Jose Alba highlighted the Lucerne Valley High School’s results at the season’s third meeting of the Cross Valley League track and field competition. The meet was held at Riverside Preparatory Academy’s state-of-the-art track facility on April 3.
Alba also ran a time of 25.76 seconds in the 200-meter competition for 15th. Jesse Perez ran a time of 26.23 for 18th place.
Besides Alba, several other Mustang boys got personal best results at the meet including Devin Wakeley who ran a time of 12.89 seconds in the 100 meters for 21st place, Jesse Perez, who ran a time of 26.23 seconds in the 200 meters, Elijah Lien, who ran a time of 5:54.92 in the boys 1600-meters, shot putters David Cummings and Francisco Fuerte who threw 30-10.90 (10th) and 30-06.00 (11th), and discus throwers Cummings who threw for a distance of 72-03 for seventh place and Jesse Medina, who threw 47-04 for 16th place.
Jesse Perez was the top 100-meter competitor with a time of 12.65 seconds for 17. He also was the sole competitor in the 800-meters with a time of 2:25.39. Kevin Alvarez was the top Lucerne Valley competitor in the boys 1600 meters with a time of 5:44.24. David Cummings also was the top Mustang in the long jump with a 10th-place finish 14-09.25.
The girls had four personal bests. They included Kathy Gaeta who ran a time of 17.16 second in the 100 meters for 18th place, Ruby Thompson who run a time of 33.98 in the 200 meters, and Noemy Magdaleno who ran personal bests in both the 1600 meters and 3200 meters with time of 7:18.25 and 17: 41.43, respectively.
Ruby Thompson was the top 100-meter runner with a time of 16.10 for 15th place, and Rebekah Hart threw for 43-00.50 and 10th place in the discus.
The Cross Valley League consists of eight schools. They are Academy for Academic Excellence (AAE), Academy of Careers & Exploration (ACE), Cobalt Institute of Math and Science, Excelsior Charter School, Riverside Preparatory School, University Preparatory School, Big Bear High School and Lucerne Valley High School. Several other LVHS sports participate in the Agape and DeAnza leagues.
