Track and Field Team Season Highlights

February 23: On Saturday, our Track and Field team would open up the Spring Sports season as they headed over to Oak Hills on February 23rd to take part in the High Desert Classic Invitational.  Sophomore Derby Demke would take 3rd place overall in the 2-mile race and place 2nd overall in the long jump.  Junior Dutch Demke would set a new personal record as he would grab 9th place overall in the 2-mile race.  Junior Anthony Navarro would set a new personal record in the 200-meter, coming in 19th place overall.  Great job to all our Track and Field athletes over the weekend.

March 2: Yesterday our High School Track and Field team competed in the CVL Pre-League meet

On the girls side
Sophomore Derby Demke started things off, coming in 2nd  Place in both the 1 mile with a time of 6:09.81 and the 2 mile with a time of 13:21.02, setting new personal records in addition to qualifying for league finals in both events. In the shot put. Sophomore Zyeira Miramontes led our girls in shot put, throwing 21 3" and taking 6th Place, followed by Taylor Hanna with a throw of 20 8” and coming in 7th Place, while both setting new personal records. Junior Zaira Rodriguez and Sophomore Marissa Navarette also threw for personal bests. In Girls Discus. Junior Taylor Hanna led our Mustangs, coming in 7th Place with a mark of 60 4”, followed by Zyeria Miramontes in 11th Place with a throw of 55' 7”. 

On the boys side:
Junior Dutch Demke had a breakout race in the 800 meters, coming in 2nd Place overall with a time of 2:13.38 while setting a new personal best and qualifying for League Finals. Junior Anthony Navarro had a personal best time of 56:70, taking 6th Place overall in the 400 meters and qualified for league finals. In addition, he placed 7th in the long jump, hitting a 16’3”  mark.

March 7: Saturday, our Track and Field team traveled to Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Eastvale. The girls were led by senior Cynthia Surber who jumped a personal best of 13’ 9” in the long jump earning 8th place of 32. Next, Taylor Hanna, who threw a personal best of 22’ in the shot put, took 26th place. On the boys' side, they were led by Max Gutierrez, who ran a personal best of 53.87 in the men's 400m, earning 5th place out of 57 who competed. Next was Morgan Balloue, who threw a personal best of 29 2” in the shot put and took 43rd place.

March 10: High School Track and Field opened up CVL play as they headed to Riverside Prep.  On the boys side, sophomore Max Gutierrez would place 2nd overall in the 400 meters with a time of 53.55 seconds and 8th overall in the 200 meters with a time of 24.98 seconds. Junior Anthony Navarro would take 3rd in the high jump with height of 5 feet 4 inches.  On the Girls' side, senior Cynthina Surber would continue to excel as she would place 9th overall in the 400-meter and 12th overall in the 100-meter.  Junior Taylor Hanna would take 6th place overall in the shot put with a throw of 21 feet 8 inches and 7th overall in the discus with a throw of 63 feet 6 inches. Sophomore Zyeira Miramontes would place 8th overall in the shot put with a throw of 20 feet even.  Great job to all our track and field athletes!

March 21: Saturday, our Track and Field team would compete in the Desert Christian Invitational. Sophomore Max Guiterrez led the boys with a 2nd Place finish in the 400m with a time of 53.97 and a 4th Place finish in the 800m with a 2:22.68. Junior Dutch Demke finished 3rd Place in the 800m with a 2:13.81 and 9th Place in the 400m with a new Personal Best of 57:86. Junior Morgan Balloue came in 4th Place in high jump hitting 5’ even and 5th Place in Discus with 82’ 6”.  Freshman Shean Winslow came in 4th Place in long jump with a personal best of 17’ 9.5” In addition, our boy’s relay team which consisted of Max Gutierrez, Dutch Demke, Shean Winslow and Patrick Sanders came in 2nd Place in the 4x400 with a time of 4:02.50. The boys finished 4th place in the JV Division and 5th place overall as a team. For the Girls, sophomore Derby Demke would take 1st Place in the girls' 3200m race with a time of 15:00 and 2nd Place in the 800m with 2:52.58. Sophomore  Zyeira Barrientos Miramontes led our throwers, coming in 6th Place in both shot put and discus with a mark of 19’ 7” and 53’ 4”. The girls finished in 9th place overall as a team.

SPRING BREAK: High School Track and Field would head to Covina and sophomore Max Gutierrez would come in 4th place overall in the 800 meter and 7th place overall in the 400 meter.  Sophomore Derby Demke would place 3rd overall in the 3200 meter and 13th overall in the 400 meter.

April 7th: Track and Field headed to Riverside Prep for their CVL meet.  Leading the girls was sophomore Derby Demke coming in 2nd place in the 2 mile with a time of 14:29 and 7th place in the mile with a 6:27. Junior Taylor Hanna would help the girls taking 6th place in Shot Put throwing 23' 6.5” while sophomore Marissa Navarette would have a great day in discus setting a new personal best with a throw of 54’ 4” taking 13th place. For the boys, sophomore Max Guiterrez took 2nd place in the 800 meters while setting a new personal best time of 2:09.13, along with junior Dutch Demke, who took 4th place with a 2:14.33. In the 2-mile, freshman Aaron Pinedo set a new personal best with a time of 12:08, capturing 13th place.

April 10: High School Track and Field would head to Moreno Valley to take part in the Big Meet.  The girls were led by sophomore Derby Demke, who took 3rd place in the girls' 2-mile race with a new personal best of 12:54.36. Senior Cynthia Surber had a personal best in the 400-meter with a 1:07.43 while taking 18th place. Sophomore Max Gutierrez led the boys, coming in 6th place in the boys' 400-meter with a 53.91. In the field events, the girls were led by Taylor Hanna, throwing 22” 7’ in the shot put and 53’ 9’ in the discus.

April 14: High School Track and Field headed up to Big Bear for their meet.  Our girls' team would be led for the second time this week by sophomore Derby Demke, taking 2nd place in the 2-mile. Junior Taylor Hanna took 7th place in shot put while sophomore Marissa Navarette had a personal best of 19'3" and took 17th place. For the boys, sophomore Max Guitierrez took 2nd place in the 800-meter with a personal best of 2:05.78 seconds. Junior Morgan Balloue tied for 2nd place with a personal best of 5" 8" in high jump.

April 15: High School Track and Field headed up to Big Bear for their meet.  Our girls' team would be led for the second time this week by sophomore Derby Demke, taking 2nd place in the 2-mile. Junior Taylor Hanna took 7th place in shot put while sophomore Marissa Navarette had a personal best of 19'3" and took 17th place. For the boys, sophomore Max Guitierrez took 2nd place in the 800-meter with a personal best of 2:05.78 seconds. Junior Morgan Balloue tied for 2nd place with a personal best of 5’ 8" in high jump.

April 24: High School Track and Field 🏃 headed to Simi Valley for their Freshman/Sophomore Championships. Sophomore Derby Demke took 1st Place in the girls' 1600m seeded race while setting a new personal best with a time of 5:49.46. She also came in 7th place in the 3200m with a time of 13:17.15. For the boys, sophomore Max Gutierrez took 1st  Place in the men’s 400m with a personal best time of 52.84 and 3rd place in the 800m with a time of 2:05.86.

April 28:  Our High School Track and Field team would head up to Big Bear to compete in CVL League Finals as well.  Sophomore Max Gutierrez, who had an amazing race in the men’s 800m, is now your Cross Valley League Champion. Also, a huge congratulations to Morgan Balloue, who took second 2nd place in high jump.  Both athletes will be moving on to CIF Prelims in Santa Barbara.   Freshman Shean Winslow would come in 3rd place with a personal best jump of 17’ 11.5” in long jump, followed by junior Anthony Navarro, who came in 6th place with a 16’ 3”. Junior Dutch Demke came in 12th place in the 800m with a 2:23.64. Freshman Aaron Pinedo took 13th place in the boys' 1600m and 14th place in the 3200m. Junior Patrick Sanders came in with a personal best time of 13:15 in the 100m. Freshman Gabriel Garcia Garcia established a new personal best of 55:27 in the 300m hurdles. The girls were led by junior Taylor Hanna, who had a personal best of 24’ 5” while taking 6th place in shot put and 68’ 1” coming in 7th place in discus. Sophomore Derby Demke came in 5th place in the 3200m with a time of 13:42.
