The Lucerne Valley High School Drama program conducted its first dinner theater event on Wednesday, April 30th in the Sgt. Brian Walker Memorial Gymnasium. Directed by Amy James-Forrette, the thespians presented “The True Story of Cinderella — ‘Evil’ Stepsisters Tell All” by Richard L. Conlon.
According to Conlon’s version, the “evil” stepsisters and stepmother got a bum rap. In this production, they tell their side of the story. The actors demonstrate how little Cinderella “martyred herself into subservience and squalor, about how she gave up control of her life waiting for the right man to take care of her, and about how her two stepsisters, Anastasia and Drizella, used education (Master’s degrees in finance and chemical engineering, respectively.) to come out on top.” Moreover, according to Conlon, “Cinderella has made herself so hapless, hopeless, and helpless that when the big ball comes, Mama has to pretend to be a fairy godmother to convince her to go. Then they have to try to make sparks fly between Cinderella and the Prince so they can finally get her out of the house.”
The cast consisted Yomari Calderon as Anastasia, Roberta Fernandez as Drizzella, Emma Rogers as Ella Comatose, Taylor Paddack as Mama, Jennifer Fernandez, and Tyler Reighard as Fredrick Comatose.
A crew that included set builders, lighting, costuming and more consisted of Zoe Comstock, Dee Demke, Tyler Reighard, Mikayla McCuistion, Lily Cobos, Judith Orozco, Isabella McCuistion, Ashlyn McTiernan, and Cinthia Surber.
