The Lucerne Valley girls basketball team scored when it counted to beat Trona, 36-33, at home on Monday.
The Tornadoes went to the lead early, scoring 10 points to the Mustangs’ 4 points at the first quarter mark. The second quarter had Trona scoring one point more than Lucerne Valley (6 points to LV’s 5), bringing the score to 16-9.
After the half, the Lady Mustangs poured it on, scoring 14 points in the third quarter to Trona’s 7. The rest of the game was a nail-biter with each team scoring just 6 points in the final quarter to tie the game at 29. Lucerne Valley prevailed during the overtime, winning the game 36-33.
On Thursday, December 20, the girls will face Sage Oak (Hesperia) at home. However, the game technically is an away game for Lucerne Valley. The game starts at 5:30 p.m.
But the team will have a busy winter break. They are scheduled to compete in the Loma Linda Academy tournament at Glendale Adventist on December 26-28. Their next home game after the break will be against Victor Valley Christian at 5:30 p.m.
As of Wednesday, the girls basketball team has a 6-7 record overall and a 1-1 record in league.
