APPLE VALLEY — A freshman duo led the Lucerne Valley High School cross country team at the Cross Valley League Finals at Horsemens Center Park in Apple Valley on Tuesday, October 30.
David Daniels was the top Lucerne Valley finisher, running a time of 22 minutes and 0 seconds. Close behind was Mario Sierra, also a 9th-grader, with a time of 22:08. Senior Eli Lien followed with a time of 22:15. Freshman Robert Cook improved on his personal record with a time of 23:32, and sophomore Aloura Cook, running in the girl’s race, ran a 35:31.
“Almost every member was able to improve on their own personal record on the three mile course,” said coach Guillermo Betancourt. “It was an exciting finish for our team. They did a great job.”
Gianni Roberts of Big Bear won the boy’s race with a time of 16:21. Kaia Hoak of Big Bear won the girl’s race in a time of 18:48. Meyers Takai og Cobalt Institute of Math and Science won the middle school boy’s two-mile race with a time of 11:30, and Diana Puente, also a Cobalt student, won the middle school girls 2-miler in a time of 13:40.
Big Bear won both the boy’s and girl’s high school three-mile races. Cobalt won the middle school girls two-mile race, and the Academy of Careers and Exploration won the middle school boy’s race.
