'Parent and Me' Paint Party Is A Success For AVID

Lucerne Valley AVID’s “Parent and Me Paint Party” fundraiser brought families together in the name of art, ice cream and fun.

“It was a super fantastic event,” said school board member Jessica Risler, who participated in the event with her son Aydin. “Everyone had a great time.”

Middle school teacher/AVID advisor Naomi Oyadomari greeted attendees and Los Angeles artist Sierra Hood taught the class. Parents and their students shared painting duties with each performing half of the painting. While the background dried everyone enjoyed ice cream.

After the background dried — and ice cream sundaes were consumed — the budding artists painted figures onto the canvas with black paint as Hood demonstrated. While none of the paintings will make it to the Getty Museum, everyone who attended had a great time and helped raise money for the AVID program.

“I wish the pictures could let you hear the laughter,” Risler said. “We were all cracking up. No one can paint, but we all tried!”
