Nine Lucerne Valley FFA Members Awarded State Degrees

The Lucerne Valley FFA’s most dedicated members participated in several key events this past week. They included the 2018 Southern Region FFA Awards Banquet on March 17 and the Southern Region FFA Speech Contests on March 20.

Nine local FFA members were awarded the State FFA Degree during the banquet, which was held at Sonora High School in La Habra. State FFA Degree members are Sydnee Fox, Garrett Hoskins, William Smith, Sarah Smith, Conor Weis, Marlen Cortez, Diego Orozco, Jody Smith, and Joseph Salbino. The State Degree is given to the top members of California’s FFA Association.

Other awards were Proficiency Awards, Star Counselor Awards, Star Administrator Awards, Star Supporting Staff/Faculty, Star Advisor, Star Reporter and Section and Regional Staff FFA Awards that included Star in Agribusiness, Star in Agriscience, Star in Agricultural Placement and Star Farmer.

Last Tuesday, four Lucerne Valley FFA members competed at the Southern Regional FFA speaking finals at Cal State Polytechnic University. They were Hollie Lopez in Job Interview, Korrina Medina and Matthew Redding in Impromptu and Jesus Alcazar in the Creed category.

From February 17-24, the Lucerne Valley FFA participated in FFA Week, an annual event that celebrates what FFA does for students and the community. Numerous fun and competitive events were held with the Seniors winning the grand finale.
