Middle School Boys Basketball Shows Toughness

The Lucerne Valley Middle School Boys Basketball team showed poise and ability in a hard fought game at home against Summit. The Lucerne Valley Middle School boys basketball team duked it out with a tough Summit squad during a home game on February 21. (The Colts face Barstow STEM Wednesday, Feb. 28 at 4 p.m. at home.)

The Colts were outscored by Summit by just one point, 27-26. Despite the loss, Coach Jason Hart was impressed.

“All the players did a great job in the game,” said Coach Hart. “They showed a lot of hustle and determination.” The team’s defensive play was especially noteworthy, and there is improvement all around, according to Coach Hart.

“We have a strong defensive team with high energy,” he said. “We have been improving on our rebounding and full court press.”

On offense, Eduardo Cervantes was the big scorer with 9 points. Lorenzo Crow had 7, Chris Lowe shot for 6, and Aiden Morgan had 4. “On the defensive side Levar Timmons and Jerimiah Espinoza did a good job pressuring the guards,” Hart said.  

The Colts basketball team includes two 7th-graders and 10 8th-graders.  Eight of the 12 players played last season.

The following are the 2017-18 Colts Basketball team members and their numbers: Blake Bartlett (21), Eduardo Cervantes (4), Robert Cook (5), Oliver Crouse (32), Lorenzo Crow (22), Jerimiah Espinoza (23), Landon Linder (14), Pedro Lopez (24), Chris Lowe (40), Aidan Morgan (20), Levar Timmons (0) and Michael Warnock (13).
